Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Chief Material Engineer to lead our materials engineering department within our thriving construction company. This key leadership role will oversee the development and implementation of innovative material strategies, ensuring quality and sustainability in our building processes to meet the company’s ambitious project goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead the materials engineering team to develop and implement material specifications and standards for construction projects.
- Evaluate and select materials for various construction applications based on performance, cost, and sustainability.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines to advise on material selection and usage.
- Conduct research and development to improve existing material properties and identify innovative materials for use in construction.
- Establish testing protocols and oversee quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with industry regulations and company standards.
- Manage vendor relationships, negotiating contracts and sourcing quality materials that align with project requirements.
- Provide technical support and guidance on material issues that arise during construction, offering timely solutions to challenges.
- Prepare and present technical reports and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
- Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements that could impact material engineering in construction.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in materials engineering within the construction industry, with a strong background in concrete, steel, and composites.
- Proven track record of leading engineering teams and managing large-scale construction projects.
- Deep knowledge of industry standards, material testing, and quality assurance methodologies.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex engineering problems and make informed decisions quickly.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with sustainability practices and green building materials is highly desirable.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is a plus.
