Projects Engineer

The Projects Engineer delivers new store construction, refits, extensions and relocations on site, managing contractors, programme, cost and quality through to handover. The role is accountable for opening stores on the committed date, to the approved design and budget, and in a condition, Operations can trade from on day one

Site Delivery & Program

• Manage the construction program for assigned stores from site handover through to opening and protect the critical path.

• Supervise civil, finishing, MEP, refrigeration, shopfitting and IT contractors on site and coordinate their sequence and interfaces.

• Hold site progress meetings, track completion against program and escalate delays that put the opening date at risk.

• Manage phased works in trading branches so refits are executed with minimum disruption to sales, customers and food safety.

• Manage testing, commissioning, snagging and final handover to Operations with a documented defects list.

Quality & Technical Control

• Verify that executed works comply with the approved design, drawings, specifications and material submittals.

• Inspect works at each stage and reject non-conforming workmanship rather than accepting it for speed.

• Supervise the installation and commissioning of refrigeration, cold rooms, electrical, fire and plumbing systems.

• Raise technical queries and site constraints with the Design Engineer and control changes through the agreed process.

• Verify that completed installations are accessible and maintainable before handover.

Cost & Contract Administration

• Control project cost against the approved budget and report variances with explanations and recovery actions.

• Measure executed works, verify contractor progress claims and certify payment only for work actually completed.

• Assess and document variations and obtain approval before instructing additional work.

• Prepare final accounts and close out contracts, retentions and warranties on completion.

• Track material and equipment delivery to site and escalate delays affecting the program.

Safety, Compliance & Coordination

• Enforce site health and safety requirements including permits, method statements, access control and contractor conduct.

• Ensure works comply with building, fire, civil defense and municipal requirements and support inspections and approvals.

• Coordinate with Government Relations on site permits and with Maintenance on asset handover and spare parts.

• Coordinate with Operations on opening readiness including stock build, equipment commissioning and staff access.

• Report project status, risks, cost and program to the Chief Property Officer.

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.

• 4-6 years of site construction or fit-out project experience, preferably in Retail, Commercial or Hospitality projects.

• Proven experience delivering fit-out or construction projects to fixed opening dates.

• Practical knowledge of MEP, refrigeration and shopfitting installation and commissioning.

• Strong knowledge of Egyptian building, fire and civil defense requirements and site safety.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, project scheduling tools and Microsoft Office; quantity measurement experience required
