Primary Design Section Head

To lead and manage primary Design activities for HV/EHV substation projects, ensuring that designs, calculations, specifications, and technical submittals are accurate, compliant, coordinated, and delivered in line with project and client requirements. 

• Lead the preparation and review of primary Design function deliverables for HV/EHV substation projects, including layouts, SLDs, equipment arrangements, and associated design documents.
• Manage section level planning and distribution of tasks to ensure timely completion of deliverables in line with project schedules.
• Review technical specifications, design criteria, equipment data, and client requirements to ensure accurate and compliant engineering outputs.
• Coordinate selection and engineering integration of primary equipment such as GIS, transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, CTs, VTs, surge arresters, and busbar systems.
• Prepare and review technical submittals, material requisitions, vendor data reviews, and engineering clarifications related to primary systems.
• Ensure proper interface coordination between design, procurement, site execution, civil works, and secondary/commissioning teams.
• Support resolution of technical issues arising during project execution, manufacturing review, installation, and commissioning stages.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable IEC standards, utility requirements, project specifications, and internal engineering practices.
• Review and validate technical changes, design deviations, and optimization proposals before issuance or implementation. Provide technical guidance and review support to engineers within the section to maintain quality and consistency of engineering output.
• Participate in design review meetings with internal teams, clients, consultants, and suppliers as required by project needs. Maintain proper documentation, revision control, and engineering records for all primary design deliverables and approvals. 

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 8-10+ years of experience in HV/EHV substation primary design and engineering.
• Strong knowledge of substation layouts, SLDs, equipment specifications, technical submittals, and interface engineering.
• Proven experience in designing and coordinating GIS, transformers, breakers, CTs, VTs, and busbar systems within substation projects.
• Experience leading or coordinating a small primary engineering team or workstream in EPC or consulting environments.
• Experience in preparing and reviewing protection coordination studies, earthing/grounding designs, and cable sizing for substations.
• Exposure to power system studies (short-circuit, load flow, coordination) and their impact on primary design decisions.
• Familiarity with IEC standards, IEEE practice, and utility requirements for HV/EHV substation projects.
• English Language: Very Good 
• Primary design engineering for HV/EHV substations (layout, SLD, mechanical arrangement)
• HV equipment selection, specification, and interface coordination (GIS, transformers, breakers, CTs, VTs)
• Power system studies awareness and application (short-circuit, coordination, earthing/grounding)
• Technical submittals, vendor data review, and material requisition management ▪ Design change management, revision control, and document management
• Interfacing between Design, Procurement, Tender, and Execution teams
• IEC and national utility standards compliance in substation design
• Technical meeting facilitation and client/consultant interface handling
• Section planning, work allocation, and quality control of engineering output
• Coaching and technical guidance
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in complex HV environments
