Job Description
The Senior Commercial Engineer will play a critical role in managing the commercial aspects of construction projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, maximizing profitability, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. This position involves leading a team responsible for cost planning, contract negotiation, risk management, and stakeholder engagement to ensure successful project execution within budget and timeframe.
Responsibilities
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Prepare and evaluate cost estimates for construction projects to ensure their accuracy and feasibility.
- Manage and negotiate contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to secure favorable terms and conditions.
- Monitor the financial performance of projects by producing regular profitability reports and conducting detailed cost analyses.
- Identify potential risks related to project costs and contractual agreements and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams to align commercial objectives with technical specifications.
- Establish and implement cost control protocols and reporting systems to manage project expenditures.
- Provide commercial insights to support business development efforts for proposals and bids.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers to foster collaboration and partnerships.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in commercial engineering or quantity surveying, specifically within the construction industry.
- Proficient in cost estimation software and project management tools.
- Strong understanding of contractual terms, conditions, and negotiation strategies.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to assess project risks and opportunities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of leading teams and engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
- Professional certifications such as MRICS or equivalent are preferred.
